The San Jose Museum of Art cultivates a definite Californian sensibility, both in the art it collects and also in many of its exhibits. But the museum is currently featuring an exhibition that's from deep in the heart of Texas.

"¡Arte Caliente!: Selections from the Joe A. Diaz Collection" runs March 25-June 11 at the San Jose Museum of Art, 110 S. Market St., San Jose. The museum will be the only West Coast institution to present the exhibit, which features more than 100 works of art created by Texas-based Chicano artists. The exhibit is comprised of paintings, photography, drawings, sculpture and video art from the private collection of South Texas businessman Joe A. Diaz. He is known for having one of the biggest collections of contemporary works by American artists of Hispanic heritage.

Some of the artists featured in the exhibit, and Diaz himself, will be in attendance at an opening night celebration on March 25 from 7 to 10 p.m.

"¡Arte Caliente!" will be one of the exhibits highlighted at Cultural Xposure, a quarterly all-ages event presented by the museum and the Pacific Art Collective. The event features live and DJ music, stand-up poetry readings, dance performances and art painted on the spot at the event and sold through a silent wet-paint auction. Cultural Xposure takes place April 7 at 7 p.m. Tickets to the event are $6 for members and $12 for nonmembers.

Museum admission is free. For more information, call 408.271.6840, or visit www.sjmusart.org.
